This is a miniature version of a mariner's astrolabes. It is intricately detailed, and the arm rotates. It makes a wonderful adornment for your self or as a gift.
The word Astrolabe comes from Greek astron, meaning "star" and lambanien, "to take, to look for". This type, with the hollow sections (so the wind could pass through and not move the device), was used aboard sailing ships to take readings from stars and landmarks.
We offer 4 versions of the miniature:
- Keychain clasp
- Necklace chain
- Pocket-watch chain with clip
- Display stand with wood base
