Magic Mirror Anamorphosis Optical Toy

Magic Mirror Anamorphosis Optical Toy

$ 68.00

The distorted image or anamorphic projection  was a very popular toy that dates back to the 1600's. These are hidden figures that come to light as they are projected onto a reflective surface in the shape of a cylinder, cone or pyramid. Although the term anamorphosis was created during the seventeenth century, its effects are known since the fifteenth century, as Leonardo Da Vinci had already described it in his notes. The Renaissance mathematician Jean François Niceron described in detail how to create anamorphosis images in his 1638 treatise  'La Perspective Curieuse' (The Curious Perspective).

Our faithful reproduction of this timeless toy includes 24 large, highly detailed cards featuring historical anamorphosis images from the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Victorian eras.

It includes a cylindrical mirror and conical mirror (12 images for each).

This set is large, high quality, and hand-made in Spain. It comes with a lovely presentation box and info card.
