The horizontal sundial is a recreation of the type built by Michael Butterfield, who was active in Paris from  about 1675 to 1724. He was appointed the official engineer to the Royal Court. The horizontal sundial is uniquely characterized by the figure of a bird on the gnomon which can be adjusted for different latitudes.

Is calculated to be used between 40 and 50 degrees latitude.

Made of wood and brass. Carries a booklet with its history and how to use.
