Hartmann's Astrolabe

Description

Georg Hartmann (1489-1564) was a prolific engineer, author, astronomer, and humanist.

He set up shop in Nuremburg in 1523 and produced scientific instruments such as astrolabes, sundials, and quadrants, for nearly 40 years.

This particular astrolabe we feature is a direct reproduction of a Hartmann Astrolabe, identifiable by the particular shape of the rete or lace-like rotating disc, and the floral style of the throne, the bracket by which the astrolabe is suspended.

Made of sturdy metal alloy and lacquered finish, it will not rust or corrode. The Astronomical ring comes with a wooden display stand and instructional booklet.
